Home is Where Mom Is

I believe it was at my mom's funeral that my sister said "Home is where Mom is." Yesterday I was feeling a longing for Home, and that phrase came to my mind. Home IS where Mom is (and my sister, and my daughter). That deep longing for Home always grows this time of year. It was 5 years ago this weekend that Lindsey died. The ache of Mother's Day is only compounded this year without Lydia to hold. And with Mom's birthday next week it's a lot of aching and longing and remembering crammed into a few days. But I know I'm going to be ok. I've got an incredible husband at my side, an amazing family, and my Heavenly Father who knows and loves me.

Yesterday I decided to listen to my favorite music artist - Cori Connors. She's a Utah local and Lindsey was bff's with her daughter growing up. Linz introduced her music to the family and we've been hooked ever since on her down-home, folk-music (ish) style. She even provided the live music at my wedding reception (it was amazing). The first song that came on was one of my favorites. It's an old gospel tune that she adapted. Its message is as simple as its melody, but I fell in love with it when I first heard her perform it several years ago. It's a gentle reminder of how to get through hard times.

In the morning, when I rise,
Give me Jesus
And when I am alone,
Give me Jesus
And when I've come to die
Give me Jesus

You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus

As I listened to the words I had tears streaming down my face as I thought of how I've grown in the last 5 years. There have definitely been growing pains, but the Lord has been abundant with His blessings to me.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!!
